understanding your brain and nervous system

Part 2 of a 2 Part Workshop - 1 Hour - £30

The human brain, a marvel of biological engineering, is the epicentre of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It’s a complex network of billions of neurons, each communicating and interacting with countless others, forming intricate pathways that dictate our every move. The brain’s structure and function are intimately tied to our behaviour. Our emotions, decision-making abilities, social interactions, and even our personalities are all shaped by this remarkable organ. Understanding the brain’s workings not only unravels the mysteries of human behaviour but also opens avenues for addressing behavioural disorders and improving mental health.

Embark on an exciting journey with us in this two-part workshop, where we will explore the complexities of the brain, its structure, and its functions.

Workshop 2: covers the following points

· Brain Architecture and Executive Functioning: This refers to the structure of the brain and how it relates to executive functions, which are a set of cognitive processes that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. Understanding this can help us improve these skills and lead to better decision-making and problem-solving.

· Coping and Compensation Mechanisms: These are strategies that individuals use to manage stress, emotional discomfort, or other challenges. Compensation mechanisms, on the other hand, are ways in which individuals adapt to overcome limitations or difficulties. Understanding these mechanisms can lead to healthier ways of dealing with life’s challenges.

· Neurotypical vs Neurodivergent: ‘Neurotypical’ is a term used to describe individuals whose brain functions within the dominant societal standards of ‘normal’. ‘Neurodivergent’, on the other hand, is a term used to describe individuals whose neurological development is atypical, such as those with autism or ADHD. Understanding the differences can foster empathy and inclusivity.

· Limited Beliefs and How to Reframe Them: Limited beliefs are self-imposed restrictions on our thoughts and actions, often based on past experiences and societal conditioning. Reframing involves changing the way we perceive these beliefs, turning them from obstacles into opportunities for growth and learning. This can lead to increased confidence and a more positive outlook on life.
